ABSTRACT
A mechanical perceptual research instrument enabling visual stimuli to be exposed for varying lengths of time. Several different versions of this were developed in the late nineteenth century, but its use declined fairly quickly after about 1970 as computer-based versions became available. The latter remain widely used in research on visual perception and attention.
