ABSTRACT

The journey so far into practice in the information society has moved on from working to support the implementation of visions (idealist pattern of practice) to enabling the definition and discussion of issues based on people’s concerns to shape the use of information systems and technologies (strategic pattern of practice). The last chapter showed how systems methodologies enabled us to engage with people in planning and defining ways to improve the quality of their lives. It was possible to use systems-thinking and systems methodologies to open up and structure debate about people’s concerns, and the impacts of any possible action.
