ABSTRACT

In this chapter we explore how trauma metaphors change over time, carrying out new synthetic mental functions for the survivor and eventually reconnecting them with his or her culture. As we have throughout the book, we continue to examine how the clinician's recognizing and verbalizing trauma-specific metaphors (TSM) as creative expressions of the unsaid, unspeakable, have the potential to transform the survivor's sense of themselves in new and integrative, transformative ways.
