Lacan gives pre-eminence to the analyst’s discourse. Though it figures third in the schema, he discusses it last. This is not because it is powerful socially1
or “a totalizing world view” theoretically.2 The university’s discourse is today’s dominant discourse of social power.3 Moreover, Lacan believes the analyst’s discourse is “but one discourse among many, not the final, ultimate discourse.”4
