ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a detailed summary of a case study involving a student with executive function difficulties to further illustrate the concepts and the assessment and intervention processes. The case study will touch only briefly on some of the aspects of the assessment work done with Carter. Carter came to the attention of the psychologist through a request from his home school district for a comprehensive evaluation to help develop an appropriate educational program. Carter’s general education teachers described Carter as a moody, temperamental adolescent and expressed concerns his inability to control his temper in their classrooms. Individual work with Carter began with an interview intended to build rapport and serve as an informal vocational assessment. Consistent with his stated interests, Carter demonstrated above average to superior performance with most tasks that required him to apply reasoning abilities with nonverbal materials.
