ABSTRACT

As discussed in the previous chapter, KM helps organizations attain or maintain sustainable competitive advantage. This chapter discusses knowledge management strategies. It provides a brief background to strategy, and develops arguments as to why and how strategy can relate strongly to KM, and how one can inform the other. Strategy is about long-term planning, but it is meaningless unless objectives are clear. Organizational culture is something that is slow to change, therefore strategic thinking involves considering not just what financial and technical changes may be needed, but also the human factors that may affect outcomes.
