ABSTRACT
It is time now to pull together the different threads that ran through the analysis of the documents by Julien and Tshibumba. These documents raise several rather fundamental issues. In part, these issues have to do with what they represent – what did we read in them? – and in part they have to do with how they represented it – with our own gaze and approach to such documents. Let me first recapitulate and summarise some of the main points of my analysis.
