ABSTRACT

L/V is replaced in the model with a constant reflecting the amount of ground lethality killed by airpower on each day. Instead of basing this value on a high number of vehicles in an armored division, as is Epstein’s estimation based on the European NATO-Warsaw Pact confrontation, we base it on the equivalent value in WEI “points” vis the total force in WEIs. In this estimation, since a single (average value) armored vehicle is worth approximately 7.5 WEI (.75×10.0) on the baseline “rolling terrain,” this is the amount of loss caused per sortie by both attacker and defender aircraft (based on the above values for sortie rate and kills per sortie).
