Audiences were not disappointed. Fresh after victory against Iraq in the 1991 Gulf War the American military took the first steps into uncharted territory. Feeling so invincible, this humanitarian mission was to define the noble impulse of the New World Order. But even in the flurry of the first days, there were indications aplenty of the disaster to come.
