ABSTRACT
Freud’s defenders retort that Freud’s critics have no empirical evidence that the alleged sexual abuse ever actually occurred; they simply assume and assert that it did. They also point out that Freud, at various times, did acknowledge that children were sometimes really abused. But by recognizing the importance of sexual fantasy, Freud shifted his theoretical focus “from neurotic abnormality to the general human condition.”
