ABSTRACT

The Cabot Circus city centre expansion project is worth £500m and covers a 14-hectare area of the centre of Bristol. Initial construction started in the autumn of 2005 with enabling and infrastructure works following approval of reserved matters in May 2005. There are three distinct areas of the project:

• Area A is the main shopping precinct which is anchored by a large department store. The main square and part of the three precincts are covered by an innovative ‘flying roof’, but are not enclosed so access is available all hours and a range of external levels are created. It consists of 100,000m2

of mixed use shopping and leisure called Cabot Circus, including a major 13-screen cinema.
