ABSTRACT

Many of the magical objects described in the Harry Potter novels connect Harry to his dead parents and to other characters in the novels who have died. These magical objects can be used to help children and adolescents explore their grief and connect to and talk about the person who has died. Children and adolescents are often worried that if they stop focusing on their grief over the person who died, they will forget that person. Often grieving children may wish that there was some way they could communicate with the person who died, or they may believe that they can somehow still communicate with that person. At the beginning of every year, the Hogwarts Express train takes the Hogwarts students to school and it brings them home at the end of the year. Sometimes children and adolescents who are grieving may feel that they cannot “turn off” thoughts of their loss to focus on other things. .
