ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to explore some of the basic concepts of organisations and how they come to exist. Organisations are formed from groups of individuals who have different authority and responsibilities which, when working well, allow the business to meet its objectives. The authority and responsibility given to people is the basis for managing the organisation. Some of these relationships are formal and others informal.
