ABSTRACT

There are a very large number of organisations involved in the construction industry. They range from multinational companies or corporations, such as Bovis Lend Lease and Skanska, down to one-man businesses that carry out minor repairs to property. There are partnerships, especially in the design sector, varying from a couple to those with several tens of principals. They are all in business to make a profit, but how they are constituted legally differs considerably. Whichever type of construction business it operates in, it is inevitable that contact will be made with other businesses with different legal constitutions. The majority of businesses are sole traders, partnerships and corporations, but this section will also look at co-operatives and franchised businesses.
