ABSTRACT

This book has analyzed the Tibetan government-in-exile from a political science point of view. The Central Tibetan Administration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (CTA) was founded right after the young Tibetan leader arrived in India in 1959. Since the early 1950s, there has been a constant flow of Tibetans who left their homes and poured into the Indian subcontinent. Especially with the departure of the 14th Dalai Lama, the number of exile Tibetans in India, Nepal and Bhutan rose significantly. Since then, the Tibetan community has grown to more than 122,000. In the early 1960s, whole families followed the example of the Dalai Lama and left their homeland for an uncertain period of time because of fear of the Chinese invasion. Since the 1980s, many individual Tibetans have searched for temporary refuge in Asian countries, being motivated by religious, economic and educational aspects.
