ABSTRACT

The incubator is an expression of the university’s educational mission as well as its economic development and service missions. The incubator carries out the university’s educational mission in a broader sense by expanding the traditional academic format of teaching individuals into one of teaching organizations. Although the incubator is traditionally defi ned as a support structure, providing common services to support fi rmformation, incubation is fundamentally a method of training a group of individuals to work well together as an organization. The reconceptualization of the incubator as an educational institution takes the conventional notion of the incubator, adapted from the hospital machine to assist premature babies, a further step.
