ABSTRACT

The idea of doing homework is a familiar and well-accepted concept in education. It is hard to make progress and do well if pupils do not work hard at their homework. No matter how good a school or how prestigious a university is, success in their studies occurs only through hard work and commitment. Homework helps broaden the knowledge base of the subjects and leads to a deeper understanding of what is learnt in sessions. This gives them motivation and an interest in what they do and the con®dence to do well. Many cultures see education as the key to prosperity, improving quality of life, and as a vehicle for crossing boundaries in a social class system. Parents ensure that their children develop the right and responsible attitude towards homework, through encouragement and support. In this respect, educational establishments (e.g. school or university), pupils (students) and parents work together as a team.
