ABSTRACT

Andrea A. Lunsford is currently Louise Hewlett Nixon Professor of English and Director of the Program in Writing and Rhetoric at Stanford University. Perhaps best known for her advancement of collaborative writing, Lunsford has also contributed to scholarship in the teaching of writing, feminist rhetoric, literacy studies, and intellectual property rights. She is co-author or co-editor of 14 books, including several popular composition textbooks and readers. Her scholarly work includes Singular Texts/Plural Authors (with Lisa Ede); the edited books Reclaiming Rhetorica: Women in the Rhetorical Tradition and Crossing Borderlands: Composition and Postcolonial Studies; and innumerable journal articles and chapters in books. Lunsford is a tireless spokesperson for the field, having presented more than 500 speeches, lectures, workshops, and papers since 1997. Her professional leadership includes Co-chair of the Alliance of Rhetoric Societies International Conference (2002-03), and Chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (1989-90). She has received many awards and honors, including the Exemplar Award from the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the MLA Mina P. Shaughnessy Award for best book on the teaching of writing, and the YWCA Women of Achievement Award, City of Columbus. Lunsford earned her BAand MA in English from the University of Florida, and her PhD in English from the Ohio State University. After her PhD, she accepted a position at the University of British Columbia; she continued there as Associate Professor and Director of Writing until 1986, when she was appointed Distinguished Professor of English at the Ohio State University. She served there until 2000, performing several administrative roles, including Director of the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing and Vice-Chair for Rhetoric and Composition.
