ABSTRACT

In daily life outdoors, we encounter noise and vibration generated by, for example, aircraft, road and rail traffic, and indoor noise and vibration sources such as mechanical ventilation systems, elevators and other items of equipment. It is against all such sources that countermeasures are sought. Even in residential accommodation there are many kinds of electrical appliances: dishwashers, food processors, washing machines, which are on the increase and give rise to annoyance. In principle there is no different approach for noise reduction outdoors

and indoors. Therefore, we shall discuss procedures for noise and vibration control that are common to both environments.
