ABSTRACT
The main idea behind fi eld theory is to look broadly for explanations of social behavior, rather than test single hypotheses. Since theories are by defi nition a set of interrelated, logically consistent statements (Shoemaker et al., 2004), it is obvious that Gatekeeping Theory can become more powerful and larger in scope if gatekeeping is considered as one phenomenon within a larger fi eld of related variables.
