ABSTRACT

Under workforce remodelling and the National Agreement, there is no expectation that headteachers alone are to be responsible for managing extended services. Dedicated leadership and management structures for extended schools, which are not entirely reliant on the energies of the headteacher, are essential. The Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED), in their report on extended schools recommended that headteachers of newly designated extended schools:

delegate more and do so earlier rather than later, to ensure that responsibilities are shared more equitably.
