ABSTRACT

The idea for this book began when we were trying to answer two key questions; what are the key functions of a school in the twenty-fi rst century and what part does and should ICT play in ensuring that education meets the millennial needs of learners? Around the world at international conferences, many were looking at the impact of ICT on teaching and learning but we wanted to take a wider focus on the purposes of ICT in education. For example, what values are attached to ICT? There didn’t seem to be much discussion around what we felt was a central issue and on our doorstep, in Northern Ireland, it looked like we had a promising place to examine these questions.
