ABSTRACT
The notion of localised technological knowledge is the result of a long process of analysis and investigation. This chapter provides an analysis of the changing foundations of the economics of knowledge and of their effects upon the assessment of the design, the characteristics and the performances of the institutions and processes that shape the generation and distribution of technological knowledge.
