ABSTRACT
Because the Internet is now easily accessible to most people, the government is encouraging planning authorities to provide an online service for applications and payment using the Planning Portal. Obviously, the hope is that this will speed up the planning process. Instead of having to rely on ‘snale mail’, the whole process is electronic. Instead of printing out large number of drawings, the plans will be sent to the local authority over the Internet as pdf images. Obviously, submitting electronically also means that it allows the public
easier access to the online Statutory Planning Register. If you want to view this site first hand, type PLANNING PORTAL into
the ‘Google Bar’ on your computer and the site will come up and you will be able to study the facilities available. However, although electronic submission will very soon become standard
practice, for the purposes of this book, I have used standard paper application forms in order to indicate what is involved.
