As indicated in Chapter 6, the government and local authorities are now busily engaged in harnessing new technology. It is now possible to make a building control submission using Submit-a-Plan. As with the electronic planning applications, instead of printing out large number of drawings, the documents are sent in electronic form. Using this form of submission means that the applicant does not have to rely on the vagaries of ‘snail mail’. In order to use the system you obviously need an internet connection. Portal for making applications to ANY local authority in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as reporting dangerous structures. The submission can be made direct to the intended local authority. It is also possible to track the progress of an (electronic) application. So in brief, the key features of Submit-a-Plan are as follows:
