ABSTRACT

When you hear the word culture, what association comes to mind? Is culture something that we have in us? Something we belong to? Something that describes how others are affiliated? People say things like “He’s a typical American,” “The immigrants brought their culture with them,” “IBM has a formal culture that dictates its dress code,” “I looked up that company’s Website and they must be professional,” and “All accountants love numbers.” Clearly, such remarks are indicators of culture and show that the term has multiple connotations, varying according to context. As the stories in this book focus on ICT use, the connections between cultures and ICTs need to be explained.
