ABSTRACT
Leeson’s secondment to Singapore was confirmed by a fax to James Bax, the area manager. The fax said that Leeson would ‘head up our Simex operation and also act as floor manager … he will report to Simon Jones and Gordon Bowser’ (Board of Banking Supervision 1995: 31). Bax was not pleased. He wanted Leeson to be responsible to Jones alone: ‘Once again we are in danger of setting up a structure which will subsequently prove disastrous … In my view it is critical that we should keep clear reporting lines’, he wrote (Board of Banking Supervision 1995: 31).
