ABSTRACT
One question that we might want to ask about this book right at the start is what its main title means. What is ‘dialectic’ and what is ‘enlightenment’? This chapter as a whole explores Adorno and Horkheimer’s approach to this question, but we need to have some rough sense of what the terms mean before we get going properly.
