ABSTRACT
It is the view of some people that the only way in which very able pupils in RE can be effectively challenged is by the use of bolt-on extras which take place away from the mainstream classroom. Additional activities outside the classroom, for example, special visits, summer schools, after-school clubs and Saturday morning masterclasses, all have their place as part of an RE department’s gifted and talented provision. Indeed, this form of beyond the classroom provision is discussed in Chapter 7. However, the main arena for providing for pupils gifted in RE is the RE classroom.
