ABSTRACT

Ray and Rasa Davies saw in 1967 at the Davies’s annual New Year’s Eve party at the Queen Alexandra, a small pub located right next to the family’s Denmark Terrace home. As Big Ben chimed and Londoners sang “Auld Lang Syne,” the overcrowded Alexandra broke into “Sunny Afternoon.” It was a proud moment for Davies, who would frequently premiere his songs to his father on the family’s upright piano.
