ABSTRACT

After his recuperation from the debacle at White City, Ray Davies took the Kinks in a new direction, one that would last for three years and result in four albums (one double) and three elaborate and exhausting stage productions. For years, Davies had wanted to mix media, whether through a pantomime to complement Village Green, the television musical of Arthur, films to accompany Muswell Hillbillies and Everybody’s in Show-Biz, or the recent Fanfare for Europe concert. For one reason or another, however, none had quite materialized as he had envisioned.
