ABSTRACT

In this final chapter, we offer a number of conclusions about countertransference and other emotional reactions of the psychotherapist, and how these operate across diverse therapies. The conclusions are offered in the form of statements, which are followed by discussion. Many of these statements reflect material we presented in considerable depth in the preceding chapters. Other statements are amplifications of topics that were touched upon only in a cursory way. Our intent in presenting these statements and discussion is to provide practitioners, researchers, and theoreticians with take-home messages of sorts as they work with and study countertransference and related phenomena.
