FROM PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION TO HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT The year 1989 is undoubtedly one of the most important dates in Polish post-war history – if not the most important date. To be able to exist in the conditions of a market economy, Polish companies had to adapt to its rules, deal with global competition and become increasingly aware of the unavoidability and dynamics of the changes in the environment and organisations themselves. It is only through changes in the personnel function that these requirements could be met. It can thus be claimed that the transition which started fifteen years ago was connected with transformations in management, including people management.
