ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with a survey of textual evidence for practices related to the hathayogic khecarīmudrā before the composition of the Khecarīvidyā. 65 This is followed by an examination of the practice as it is described in haṭhayogic texts. Next ethnographic data is drawn on to see how and why khecarīmudrā is practised today. The chapter finishes with a brief look at those who practised the technique in the past and those who practise it today.
