ABSTRACT
The Prophet rightly expressed his aversion to divorce, referring to the fact that it is hateful in the eyes of God: ‘Of all the things that are lawful, divorce is the most hateful to God.’266
The Qur’an encourages harmony in a relationship, discouraging men and women from behaviour that could lead to divorce, as is clear from the following verse:
Consort with them honourably; or if you are averse to them, it is possible you may be averse to a thing, and God set in it much good.267
