ABSTRACT

Tutor’s notes Multiplication grows out of an ability to see number patterns and to use equal addition. This lesson helps to develop learning opportunities in both of these areas of number work.

The lesson sets learning opportunities for students to experience counting in twos (eyes and hands) and working with pairs (gloves and socks). The introduction to the lesson presents life experience (physical experience) discussion and representation with 3D objects (e.g. counters or bottle tops). The activities are worksheet-generated discussion (2D representation) and recording.
