ABSTRACT
Throughout this book I've been investigating different meanings of singleness as understood by women who are alone. I have suggested that singleness is an important topic for feminism, yet in recent years there has been little sustained analysis of empirical data on the marginalization of single women. The different approaches to data taken in the preceding chapters show something of how women work with a `single' identity in a social context in the west that is changing rapidly.
