ABSTRACT

Looking at the situations the Yaquis and Delawares found themselves in immediately after removal one cannot help but think that matters looked bleak for the tribe. The Delawares perceived their legal identity to be threatened and so immediately post-removal it did look as if they were likely to succumb to state pressures. But that was not the case. The Delawares did not vanish, even though they were involved in a long struggle concerning the loss of their federal recognition.
