ABSTRACT

If the history of the Delawares was one of movement and accommodation, the history of the Yaquis is one of adaptation, standing firm, and determined resistance to external tension. While this does sound like the Yoeme, as they refer to themselves, were decidedly more likely to succeed in their struggle for land and tribal autonomy, they, too, came to the verge of being overcome in their attempt to remain Yaquis.1
