ABSTRACT

This quote is from a western movie in which Native Americans figure only very marginally. Dunson and two friends, an old man and a boy, have come to Texas looking for land to start a ranch. When they finally find the right spot, the land turns out to belong to someone else already, a man who had received it as a gift from the Spanish king. To John Wayne, alias Thomas Dunson, this does not justify the possession of such a vast area. Thus, he shoots one of the two men representing the owner and sends the other one back to inform his employer that he, Dunson, is taking the land away from him, just as he and the Spanish king had taken it away from the Indians.
