First published in 1821. Title varies slightly from edition to edition. A romantic account based on the author’s own journal, from the departure from France to the return to England. More than any other cause, British success at Washington came because of Americans’ lack of experience and habits of soldiers. The primary cause of failure at New Orleans was that the Americans were fully prepared because they had somehow gained intelligence of the secret British expedition.
