ABSTRACT

The process of selecting suitablematerials for a given project is complex

when viewed from the outside, but as with the process of technical

design, it becomes second nature to the experienced designer. The

palette of skills discussed in Chapter 1 is in fact inextricably linked to a

similar palette of materials knowledge. Successful designers develop

a deep understanding of the resources they use, whether it is based on a

narrow or a wide range of materials.
