ABSTRACT
In the previous section on the selection of materials, the final chapter
was based on the study of three separate hypothetical case studies,
each aiming to illustrate a different approach to the selection of mate-
rials. Although these studies highlighted the process for choosing
materials, the point was made: that it is an integral part of technical
design and cannot be viewed in isolation. These same studies will be
examined again in this chapter where the ‘detail design process’ will
be examined.
