ABSTRACT

This book has examined present and potential exploitation of marine natural resources from three different perspectives: the economic; the technological; and the environmental. In an effort to understand the problems at stake when exploiting natural resources from the sea, a strong emphasis has been put on the technological apparatus and the consequent environmental impact that it provokes on the marine ecosystem. The aim of this closing section is to summarize the findings for each of the five types of resources analyzed throughout the research: offshore oil and gas, marine renewable energy, underwater mineral deposits, fish, and marine bio-products.
