ABSTRACT

There are many forms of art and we have dealt with just a few. Art is not limited to the traditional forms of painting, sculpting, or writing. It is whatever form we use to express the unique creative process that lies within each of us. Studies have shown that the use of the creative process can be healing in many areas, including grief, chronic illness, emotional trauma, and physical injury (Bertman, 1999; Liebmann, 1986; Malchiodi, 1998; Mitchell & Friedman, 1994). Art done with an “exquisite witness” enhances the healing qualities of the creative process (Jeffreys, 2005, p. 22).
