ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on treatment of clients who present with difficulties establishing adaptive adult daily routines and carrying out occupational roles. Adult occupational roles in this book will refer not only to career paths, but also to “filler” jobs; college, university, or job-training programs; housewife and parenting roles; volunteer work; serious artistic or sports endeavors; and other vocational and leisure paths through which people derive meaning. Normative and maladaptive developmental patterns and pathways affecting adult occupational functioning will be contrasted, as will processes that underlie adaptive occupational functioning at different stages of life span development.
