ABSTRACT
Eric Raymond, self-proclaimed anthropologist of the open source software movement, once observed, “Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow.” On first reading, this seems simply to be a pithy inversion of “Too many cooks spoil the broth,” but this statement is in fact a critical claim about the unique aesthetic qualities of free software.
