ABSTRACT

The production style will be decided by the director, but within that, actor will now know how to fit their acting choices into the director's framework as illuminated by the original intent and thoughts of all those years ago. In those far off days, plays were performed on little stages, on pageant wag-ons out in the open that had no room for scenery and that provided just a platform for the actors to talk to the audience. The whole play was therefore played out front, with the characters making a direct link between the simple religious and social points of the play and the lives of the audience members standing out front and to the sides of the performing area. The reality onstage is not that Noah is talking to his wife, but that the audience members are watching two actors presenting aspects of a husband-wife scene, to be shared and commented on equally by the audience and actors.
