ABSTRACT
The author was born and reared on the island of Trinidad in the West Indies. She moved to the United States with her family and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado. In 1994 she won the Book America’s Award presented by the Consortium of Latin American Studies for The Mermaid’s Twin Sister.
