ABSTRACT
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Mathenge went to Nairobi Primary School and Kenya High School for Girls. Inspired by her secondary school art teacher, and encouraged by her father to pursue a career in art, she entered Kenyatta University and graduated in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in fine art. Mathenge has been associated with the publishing house Jacaranda Designs since it first began operation in 1991, working part-time as an illustrator until her graduation, when she became a full-time member of the art staff.
